Summary Plot of Pasang Wangmo (Esape for Freedon)

The Escape for Freedom

The Escape for Freedom is a story about this young Tibetan activist, name Tenzin Tekchoe who experienced the event when his country was conquered by the Communist China in 1959. Tenzin Tekchoe was born into a very rich family (Keruk) but when the Chinese invasion began in 1959, his family was distorted and left with nothing. Even the freedom to practice their precious religion, freedom of speech, media, freedom to trial are all taken away. So, he started to protest along with some other Tibetans through a method of non-violent approaches but he was arrested many times. Later, as the Chinese planned to arrest Tekchoe and kill him, he escaped Tibet to India by crossing the mountain region through the Himalayas. It took Tekchoe almost a month of walk to reach India. He searched for the Tibetan refugee center in India. He was very depressed and uneasy to even flashback on the haunting events in Tibet, so he thought he has to do something since he is free. After two years since he escaped, he got a visa to come to the United State as an asylum. As he got here in America, a lot of changes took place and many great things begin to happen…

  1. Hi Pasang,

This is an excellent topic for a story. It has political and personal drama and it is a riches to rags story. The way it is written, it seems almost epic, so I wonder if you can zero in on one or two events; otherwise, you're telling the story of the character's entire life! Some additional questions to consider:

--From what point are you starting the story? Are you starting from his time in the US and telling it in flashbacks or will it be linear?

--Will there be other significant characters? What roles will they play?

--Since there are several significant events here, can you use one as the turning point or climax of the story? Maybe his escape into idea?

Lastly, a comment. Sometimes in stories that feature a hero the main character can be somewhat one-dimensional. How will you help your reader to understand Tekchoe as a complex, unique person?
